Back to basics: frontman Dan Layus explains Augustana’s fresh approach to their new record

With two successful albums under their belts, Augustana wanted to move in a different direction for their third full-length record. “The original idea, when we got the green light to record, was to try and do something that we never had a chance to do before,” frontman Dan Layus explained, “…we had this fresh batch of songs that we were really excited about and we wanted to just get as close to a live recording as possible with just a couple of over-dubs.”

The result is an organic, raw rock album with a sound that is undeniably Americana and pulls from some of the band’s influences like Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty. “We’ve certainly always been influenced by that – but I think it just took a couple of records and a couple of years for that to finally, I feel like, appropriately manifest itself onto a record.”

Michael Bublé’s New Video, Deluxe CD & Tour Dates

When he’s not swooning crowds of thousands in stadiums and theaters, Michael Bublé spends his time as a Justin Bieber look-a-like and…an astronaut? Yep, that’s right…

In his latest video, released today, Michael imitates a number famous personalities. When asked about the video, he explains the video in the press release:

“You can see how much fun I had playing these characters,” commented Bublé. Along with portrayals of Bieber, Dean and Eastwood as a cowboy from “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly”, Bublé is also a man from outer space in homage to the space movies from the 50’s, 60’s and ‘70’s, a young Hollywood actor scuffling with the paparazzi and a 70’s thief driving a muscle car. “This video is about celebrity culture and people’s dreams about fame… And of course a reminder that it’s important to remember what’s real and what isn’t,” commented Bublé.

Imogen Heap Announces Nov. 2nd DVD Release and UK Tour

On November 2nd Imogen Heap will be releasing a DVD chronicling her life and growth over the last three years. Fans will have an inside look at the making of Heap’s 2009 album Ellipse.

Imogen is quoted in the press release and describes the reason for making the DVD: “”It all started with a fan sending in a request, asking if I could make a video diary when on my writing trip around the pacific. So, I took it with me as my only companion and spoke daily into the camera. When I got back to London, I kept it up with a lot of help from my good friend Justine, who’d come around twice a week and also would film what became the 40 vblogs.

There are so many peripheral things that go around making an album. It all goes by in a flash for me. Dotted with performances, collaborations to passing my driving test! Everyone will finally have an idea of what I get up to in my basement and why it takes me so long to make an album.

People will get a real feel for the fabric of the sounds on the album, from wine glasses in the kitchen to the birds flocking over the park woods in the evening. Taking the piano apart to the squeaky floors in the hallway and how they get molded and shaped into the songs.”
