Write. Speak. Play.

I’m not sure when I started dividing musicians into the following three categories, but I’ve done so for at least the past 2 years. In my mind, musicians are either Writers, Vocalists, or Performers. Now, when I call an artist one or the other, I don’t mean to imply that they fail miserably in the […]

Don’t be afraid of the process. It’s your life.

Let me just put this out there to all my fellow songwriters: If you didn’t know, every song you write is not going to be a hit.

‘Success’ does not equal ’emotional invincibility.’

I’ve had numerous opportunities to sit in on interviews with ‘famous’ musicians. I’ve also shared the stage with a few. They have major record deals, t.v. placements, radio play, sell-out shows, adoring fans. Maybe it sounds silly, but it was easy for me as a kid to forget that you can’t leave basic human emotions behind. How easily I forgot that we’re all so much alike, whether or not we’ve seen the kind of success we’d like to as artists.

Thank YOU!

Keep Your Curiosity

My car has over 200,000 miles on it.

When it’s clean, it still looks alright on the outside. But it rattles and squeaks from the undercarriage like the Fords from the early 1900’s that Goofy drives in those old Warner Bros. cartoons. And if it gives out any time soon, there’s not a damn thing I’ll be able to do about it.

Since I started playing live shows alone in 2011, I’ve had some incredible experiences. I’ve traveled to distant cities to play, opened a sold-out show, and had the honor of playing with Ian McFeron at my favorite venue in Seattle. I released two EPs, recorded my first full-length album (slated for to release this summer) and even shared the stage with a long-time hero of mine. I dreamt of the things I have had the privilege of experiencing in reality.

The Power of Belief

Wednesday, April 11th, 2012

None of us can predict or control the future. We’re united in not knowing what’s coming next. And it’s easy to feel discouraged, because lot of things are unlikely.

But “unlikely” is not the same thing as “impossible.” There is power in belief.

Faithfulness…or lack thereof.

It’s 11:52 p.m. I shouldn’t be awake. I’ve been sick the past few days; my throat still hurts. I was convinced the Echinacea tea I drank two nights in a row had some sort of stimulant in it that kept me awake longer than I should have been. But whether it secretly did or didn’t, […]

Just Breathe!

I’ve played 13 shows this month. Had band rehearsal 6 times. Went into the studio twice, recording for my full-length album. And I caught 2 shows that weren’t my own (check out Jessica Lynne , Adena Atkins and Avians Alight when you get a minute). That means 23 of 29 nights this month were filled with music.
