Interview: TONIC’s Emerson Hart on family, writing and the band’s journey so far

The thought of starting a conversation about music with Emerson Hart was very intimidating at first – after all, he wrote some of my favorite songs over the last two decades – but that feeling quickly transformed into comfort when he reached out his hand and introduced himself just before our interview last Friday afternoon at Woodinville’s Chateau Ste Michelle.

California band Echosmith had three very clear messages to share at their Green River College show last Friday night: “Number one: you are not alone,” Lead vocalist Sydney Sierota shared with the attentive student audience, “number two: All it takes is accepting yourself for who you are and who you aren’t, I promise. And finally,” she continued, “I need you guys to know, so badly: that you are so, so loved. Especially by this band on this very stage.”

Amazing Guys: Good Old War On Their Upcoming Album ‘BROKEN INTO BETTER SHAPE’ + interview

Keith Goodwin and Dan Schwartz of Good Old War made a stop in Seattle last week and they were kind enough to talk to me about their upcoming album, Broken Into Better Shape. I found out about these guys after their song, “Amazing Eyes,” found me and brought light to a very uninspired time in my life a few months go. The song opened up a whole new world for me as I immediately sought out, listened to and hung on every harmonized note in Good Old War’s catalog.

In a recent interview, Serj Tankian and John Dolmayan of System of a Down had a lot to share about the story behind their upcoming Wake Up The Souls Tour. EXCLUSIVE: An interview with Scars on 45 in Seattle!

Monday, December 15th, 2014

Three years ago, I did an interview with three very charismatic lads from the band Scars on 45 at the Paramount Theater in Seattle.  At the time, they had just released their self-titled debut album with Atlantic Records and they were having a great time touring the United States with The Fray.  And I – well, I […]

The Apache Relay on Their Latest Album: “We Went To the Ends of the Earth with this Record” + interview +

I fell for The Apache Relay as soon as I heard their song “Forest For The Trees.” That song was just the first domino, of course and as I continued to listen to the rest of the songs on their self-titled album I fell more and more in music love with their beautiful vocal harmonies and instrumentation. These guys have an incredible ability to take you somewhere else when you listen to them. For me, their songs are very cozy and they bring me to a bench facing my favorite treescaped park.

Mary Lambert: “I Think it Did Take a Straight White Male To Talk About Gay Rights…”

Friday, August 29th, 2014

Mary: I think it’s interesting. I think people, in the music industry especially, have been wanting to talk about it and it has been at the forefront of a lot of peoples’ minds. But I think it did take a straight white male to talk about gay rights and have it have the command for people to notice. And it’s unfortunate that it had to be from a straight while male – in my opinion – I think it would have been so much cooler if someone in the gay community had that kind of command. The most important part of ending homophobia is just visibility and allyship. And to have someone, especially in the rap world, want to speak up about it and devote his time to it and make it part of his issue is incredible and I think it’s been life-changing for a lot of people. And on the other end, I’m on the phone – so it has opened doors for me as a gay artist.

One of my favorite things about Thompson Square – comprised of husband and wife Keifer and Shawna Thompson – is how they take a positive and fun approach to music and life. Not to mention that they write catchy country songs that make every day sunny and bright!
