Sunday nights just got a whole lot hotter on ABC thanks to Skyler Stonestreet’s latest single, “A Little Taste”. The song, which she wrote and produced with Jacques Brautbar (formerly of Phantom Planet), was one of those tracks that just came out without a lot of extra effort. “This is the first song that I felt so strongly about,” she explained, “…It was the first mix of the song that we did – maybe the second – and I was like, ‘oh. It’s done!’ That rarely happens for me. So I knew that something was happening.”

To celebrate the 2012′s Bumbershoot Festival, I’m sharing very special interviews with some of my favorite bands who are a part of this year’s lineup. Today’s featured band is one of my favorites in the Northwest, Polecat. The band combines roots rock with southern bluegrass soul.

It’s been three years since A Fine Frenzy, also known as Alison Sudol, released her charismatic sophomore record, ‘Bomb in a Birdcage.’ It couldn’t have been a more challenging and rewarding time in between records for Alison, who took an entirely different approach to her third record, ‘Pines.’ “I went into places with my heart and my soul with this record that I have never cared to go into before, I think,” she said. “It’s difficult to describe, you know?”

I love me a good, intelligent rock duo. There are no musical pairs more fitting of that description than California-dwelling Harvard graduates, Max Drummey and D.A. Wallach of Chester French. These guys have played music with a variety of well-known musicians – in fact, their musical career began with Pharell Williams and Kanye West vying for their contract signatures – but what really makes them special is their ability to tap into the hip-hop, pop and rock genres and put together quality songs.

In a time when many artists are playing it safe and sticking to the kind of music they know, Brandi Carlile decided to depart from the expected and take an entirely new approach to the music on her latest record, Bear Creek. “We went into this studio with the mindset of shunning any tangible sense of continuity,” Brandi explained, “it was something we’d been conscious of in the past and we wanted to see if continuity would happen without trying to make it happen.”
