AJR Brothers brought a whole lot of fun to the Moore with Ingrid Michaelson + interview

Brothers Adam, Jack and Ryan Met of AJR are no strangers to showing an audience a good time. They’ve opened for an impressive list of artists – Demi Lovato, Train, Andy Grammer to name a few – but I’m pretty sure we’re going to see some pretty big names opening for them someday. 🙂 I was lucky enough to connect with the guys just before their opening set for Ingrid Michaelson in Seattle and learn a little bit about them.

Freewheelin’ Marc Scibilia makes a stop in Seattle + interview

Donning a red plaid shirt and his trademark wild, curly hair, Marc Scibilia made his way over to me in the bar of Seattle’s historic Columbia City Theater on Tuesday night – just about an hour before the last show of his tour with fellow Nashville-dwelling singer-songwriter Jon McLaughlin. There are a few influences that I can hear […]

Twenty-five years, sixteen albums and countless shows – Linford Detweiler and Karin Bergquist of Over the Rhine bring an immense amount of musical experience to their records. It isn’t just their musical prowess that makes them special, though, it’s their ability to write songs that give listeners the sweet sense of spirituality that comes from feeling at home.

Interview: Phoebe Bridgers at Bumbershoot!

Phoebe Bridgers’ journey leading up to playing this year’s Bumbershoot Festival has been anything but ordinary. She recorded her debut EP, Killer, with prolific songwriter Ryan Adams just one day after meeting him through a friend in Hollywood.

It’s no wonder, since it only takes seeing her play once to leave you knowing that she is something very special. She is a true songwriter in the very classical sense. She sings lyrics that you can feel in your heart as you hang on every note she plays.

Let’s get STOOPID! Catching up with SLIGHTLY STOOPID’s Ryan “RyMo” Moran!

In their latest video, “The Prophet,” reggae band Slightly Stoopid shares a clip of a home recording with the late Bradley Nowell of Sublime jamming the song with them. The clip is just one glimpse into a story that began almost twenty years ago with Stoopid singers and songwriters Miles Doughty and Kyle McDonald hitting it off with Nowell, and getting signed to his label Skunk Records.

“When Miles first wrote that song, Brad loved it…” Drummer Ryan “RyMo” Moran shared, “He actually covered it for a little while and we played it live a little bit, but not as a whole band – usually Miles would play it solo at the end of the night.”

It’s a unique back-story, one that no doubt intertwines into everything, but it’s only one part of a story that’s still being written. I had the opportunity to sit down with RyMo to talk a little about what he’s learned over the last thirteen years with Slightly Stoopid, the band’s new video and album. I hope you enjoy!

Interview: ZZ Ward is Back at it With New Album ‘This Means War’

ZZ Ward earned the attention of music fans across the world after her nostalgically soulful voice and gut-wrenchingly honest approach to songwriting defined her debut record, ’Til The Casket Drops. “I was completely heartbroken when I wrote that album,” she explained. “It was the easiest album to write because I was so depressed about everything that it was easy for me to just talk about it to get it off of my chest.”

Jukebox The Ghost On The Unique Approach To Their New Album and Life on the Road

Jukebox the Ghost’s latest self-titled album goes into some new territory for the Washington, DC band. Singer Ben Thornewill is not only an incredible vocalist – he is also a classically trained and very talented pianist. To celebrate the album’s release on Cherry Tree Records, Ben recorded a piano version of every song to be included on the album. The piano versions take the songs to entirely new places and create the possibility for different interpretations.

The tour, which currently features 90s hit-makers Sugar Ray, Eve 6, Better Than Ezra and Uncle Kracker, is all about fun and giving the fans what they want. “A couple years ago, I said ‘why don’t we get a couple bands from the nineties together? 18 days left: You can be a part of The W Lovers debut album release!

The W Lovers are is the best new duo to step into the Seattle music scene. Fleur and Wesley Wood write beautiful Americana inspired songs that you can get lost in. Telling stories through music is what great and impactful songwriting is all about – and these two have it down.

Interview: Seattle’s own Arthur James!

One listen to Arthur James’ raspy, intimate acoustic songs and you’ll be taken to another place. The songs on his debut EP, The 4th Floor, make me feel like I am in sitting in on an evocative private upstairs apartment performance.
