A couple of years ago I got a note telling me that Justin Nozuka was going to be touring with one of my very favorite artists, Missy Higgins. I had never heard of him and wanted to check out some of his songs so I listened to a couple of songs on his debut album, Holly. I wasn’t disappointed. His talent is absolutely undeniable, in fact his soulful voice had me fooled into thinking that he was a much older guy than he is. I later came to find that Justin Nozuka is a young guy with and old soul who reminds me of a pre-Waiting For My Rocket to Come Jason Mraz.
The American/Canadian Nozuka started penning the songs that would appear on his debut album when he was just 15 years old. Now 21, he released his second full-length album, You I Wind Land and Sea, produced by Bill Bell (Jason Mraz, Tom Cochrane) on April 13th. The album features twelve great songs including the single “My Heart is Yours” and my favorite song, “Heartless,” which was written after Justin’s brother, Christian Bridges, brought him a melody that he described as “magical.”
Needless to say, I think You I Wind Land and Sea is a brilliant record from an artist who has only just begun to uncover the music within. I’m excited to see what kinds of awesome things are waiting for Justin in the future! Check out our Q&A session and get to know Justin Nozuka!
