I’m going to just come out and say it: this album is so gorgeous. From the plush ballad, “I Think That You Might Be Wrong” to the sweet but piercing track, “The Knife,” this record delivers perfection in its subtlety.
Great Lake Swimmers is a five-piece folk outfit based out of Toronto. Since their formation in 2003, the band has been slowly but surely garnering praise for their melodic prowess. In 2010, the band won a Canadian Indie Award for Favorite Folk/Roots Group and it’s only gotten better from there.
Lead-singer Tony Dekker has a voice like no other and he uses it to create a unique emotional experience with every verse he delivers. “New Wild Everywhere,” the title track, reminds me of something I’d hear on the soundtrack of a movie that takes place in the 70s. Something about its honest simplicity keeps me listening over and over again.
“Easy Come Easy Go” is an up-tempo
The band is currently on the road, making several stops in Canada before they kick off their US tour dates in our very own Emerald City on May 13th. You can get your tickets here: http://www.tractortavern.com/
The verdict: It’s wonderful…Every second of its ethereal beauty. Give it a listen. But make sure you buy the Deluxe version of the record – the acoustic bonus tracks are icing on the cake.
